A graduate of Harvard Medical School as well as the Duke University Medical Center general residency in psychiatry, Dr. Rosa has maintained an office practicing psychiatry in Central New York since 2008. In that time, he has undergone additional training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the International Masterson Institute for Disorders of the Self followed by formal psychoanalytic training with the International Institute for Psychoanalytic Training.
For nearly 20 years, Dr. Rosa has seen patients suffering from a variety a mental health conditions including depression, anxiety and the consequences of traumatic experience. The effect of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis has been to help many individuals better negotiate their lives both interpersonally and within themselves. In exploring these issues, an ever increasing number of questions have arisen surrounding the meaning of life and the purpose behind our relationships. Despite the traditionally agnostic position found in many psychological theories, the longing of the human heart for true healing of the wounds in our lives continues to manifest in patients’ stories.
Dr. Rosa has discovered that honoring this longing and giving voice to one’s relationship with a loving God in the spiritual life can give rise to a greater awareness of the tremendous mercy of God in our lives, and a deeper sense of healing within the mind.
Dr. Rosa is a practicing Catholic, a husband of over two decades, and the father to his and his wife’s eleven children. Informed by this life experience, his deep interest in the spiritual life and the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola in particular, along with his training as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, his view to incorporating the spiritual life into the modes of treatment he provides his patients go hand in hand.
